The Power of Pentecost
Pentecost 2020 has arrived. It sure looks different, but then again, so did the Pentecost in the book of Acts where the disciples received the Holy Spirit in order to be God’s witnesses to a lost world and carry on the work that Jesus started. God’s promise to them back then is the same promise to us today.
‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.’ - Acts 2:17
For God’s promise of the Holy Spirit is for you and your families, for those yet to be born and for everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself. - Acts 2:39
When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future. - John 16:13
When He comes, He’ll expose the error of the godless world’s view of sin, righteousness, and judgment: He’ll show them that their refusal to believe in me is their basic sin; that righteousness comes from above, where I am with the Father; out of their sight and control; that judgment takes place as the ruler of this godless world is brought to trial and convicted. - John 16:8-10
These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. - 1 Corinthians 2:10-11
Jesus told His disciples, “the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” - John 14:26
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. - 1 Corinthians 12:7
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. - Romans 8:26
And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. - Ephesians 1:13
Like no other time in history, we need the Holy Spirit. In this new Era, we pray for an outpouring. We ask, Lord, that You would do it again like in Acts 2 when Your church was released. As we position ourselves to wait like Your disciples in the upper room, we do so not only for ourselves, but for the lost, the broken, and the hurting. Inoculate us (process of producing immunity and method of vaccination) with your Holy Spirit so that we may bring “the Solution” to a dying world. Brood and hover over the hearts of people to prepare them for what you are about to do so they can receive all that You are about to pour out, in Jesus mighty name we pray!
Just in time for the season of Pentecost, we have released a 3-day devotional called - The Waiting. If you’re interested in following along click below for access to the first one. Then check us out on YouTube for the rest!
